SHEPHERDS OF THE FUTURE

Les Bergers du Futur, 52′ proposed by Lionel Roux. Co-produced by Contes Modernes and France Télévisions. With the support of the PACA region, the Rhône-Alpes region, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry and the Delegation for Information and Communication of the Social Ministries (DICOM).

To be a shepherd in the 21st century is to decide to belong to a world in motion, and even more, to contribute to it.
By inviting us to explore the little-known world of shepherding, Lionel Roux challenges preconceived ideas and shows us men and women who have chosen a profoundly contemporary profession with major economic and human stakes.
Odin, Isabelle, Felix and their companions will spend a year studying at the Blackbird School in Salon-de-Provence. They will learn to become shepherds, to drive and take care of a herd.
They will enter a geographical, social, structured and living universe, that of sheep breeders, Provençal sheepfolds, alpine huts and transhumance.
This world is also that of long days spent with sheep, goats and dogs under too much sun, fog or rain. A world made of caresses and whips that snap. A world of which they did not necessarily suspect the hardness, the greatness or the strength. They will have to invent their own road. They will make an alliance with the herd, with nature, with the seasons. They will have to face their doubts, their hopes. They will also have to face themselves.
