In the heart of the Bouches-du-Rhône department, “La relève” offers a dive into the intimate lives of three young farmers.
Through a cross portrait of three characters, the film tells how this new generation reinvents the practice of their profession to make it coincide with a new ideal of life. These young people, who introduce new management methods, deal with agricultural policies, while confronting the view of their elders, manage to find a balance between family life, leisure and professional life.
This revolution causes generation clashes, the adventure is not simple but they believe in it.
The film revolves around:
- Nicolas, a market gardener in Le Milles, an ambitious businessman who started from nothing.
- Jean-Dominique, from a family of farmers, manages the large cereal crops intensively and introduces modern technology.
- Céline, a biology graduate, produces organic saffron on the hills of Garlaban.
They have in common their passion for the profession but also and above all the desire to have time for leisure and a family life.
Succession is perhaps the solution for a perennial and attractive agriculture.
