According to a European directive of July 13, 1992, all landfills in Europe should have closed in their current form by the year 2002 and been replaced by other means of waste treatment such as incinerators.
In the meantime, every year in Marseille, 400,000 tons of garbage are dumped in Entressen, in the largest open-air landfill in Europe.
Through the serious problem of urban waste, our documentary, which focuses primarily on the fate of gulls, this beautiful bird with such pure colors but formidable scavenger, tries to answer the following questions.
The consumer society has built huge pyramids to the glory of waste; the table is set, gulls and seagulls are happily feeding, but what will happen when these dumps are closed?
Are we in danger of seeing gulls flooding into Europe’s coastal cities and are we heading for a Hitchcock-like disaster scenario?
Are we going to be overwhelmed by birds that have developed in a completely abnormal way on our waste or can we hope for a fall in numbers by self-regulation…?
Do gulls really represent a threat for the post-2002 period…?
The film poses the problem of environmental management, today at the interface of the economic and the social, the political and the moral, the present and the future.
This subject is of interest to all Europeans because the defense of the environment is the same as the defense of life.
